Digital Couture is a site created to showcase my love of the Kisekae art form. I've been making Kisekae templates for about two years now, even though I just recently decided to start posting them on the internet. When it comes to actual dolls, I have made one or two complete sets, but they look terrible, so I won't post them here. Currently, I am working on several sets which will hopefully be completed once my schedule gets a little less hectic.
The templates themselves are not static here. I'm really weird about how they look, so it isn't all that uncommon for me to go back and change just a few pixels on even my oldest templates. I usually mark them as "updated/revised" if I change something that's really apparent, but otherwise I just update them silently. As a rule, I always consider new templates to be just rough drafts because I'm prone to messing with them a lot while they're brand new. This might be due to the fact that I'm more willing to post templates now before I've had enough time to properly smooth them out, or because I'm slightly crazy. I'll leave that up to you to decide. Template making used to be a giant hassle for me, but I think I'm having more success with it recently. It might only take me one or two days of off-and-on work to create a rough draft now, while it used to take more like a week for me to be happy enough with what I was doing to call it quits (it sounds insane, but it's true). In just the last couple of months, I think I've really gotten a better hold on my style, which really helps time-wise. Why make templates? Well, originally I just wanted to make doll sets, so most of my early templates were made in my quest for a perfect clothes model. However, after the terrible experience I had with my unpublished Sawa dolls (she took so much time but I can't stand her anymore!), I really didn't feel like making dolls anymore. For awhile, I didn't mess with KiSS stuff. Then, and I can't exactly remember why, I just started doing it again. I still made templates with the idea that I would make them into KiSS sets, but sometimes I just made templates because I thought certain images would make good templates. And, even though it drives me crazy all the time, I enjoy working with pixels. Why not just make pixel-art dolls, like all those cute adoptable dolls out there? Well, I have made some adoptable dolls, but I just don't enjoy them as much as KiSS dolls. Besides, I want all of my templates to get their own KiSS wardrobes, I just don't want to make them. Also, a lot of adoptable dolls are original drawings, and I can't draw bases worth a darn. --index |
